WASHINGTON, July 27 -- The office of Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, I-D-Conn., issued the following news release:

Today, the Connecticut delegation released the following statement on the Obama Administration's recently announced launch of a ground-breaking partnership among the federal government, state officials, several leading private health insurance organizations, and other health care anti-fraud groups to prevent health care fraud:

"We applaud the Administration for forming this powerful public-private partnership to crack down on criminals seeking to defraud patients and taxpayers. Strong remedies from the Affordable Care Act will mean less waste and better care for many across Connecticut and the nation. We are hopeful that this partnership between key federal agencies and industry stakeholders - including some in Connecticut - will empower law enforcement, prosecutors, and policymakers to work smarter and faster to prevent waste, fraud, and illegal harm to patients and consumers. The Affordable Care Act has already saved American taxpayers more than $4 billion through the law's Health Care Fraud and Abuse Control program, and this new collaboration with the private sector will increase those savings by billions more."
